After Langkawi, Malaysia continues to delight us with beautiful places, full of history, culture and nice smiling people.

Georgetown is the capital of one of the 14 states of Malaysia, Penang Island, being one of the most important settlements on the Malacca Strait. It is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site and it really deserves it! It has an amazing architecture, with well-preserved colonial core and original shop houses dating from the 19^th century.

Except for the tasty street food and beautiful buildings, I really loved our escape from the heat on the Penang Hill, at more than 800 m altitude. We reached it by a very modern funicular that in certain points gives the impression of a real roller coaster…and when you arrive up…well, there is a magnificent panoramic view of Georgetown, the mainland and Penang Bridge.

We also found in Georgetown one of the most contrasted skyscrapers we’ve seen so far- the 231m Komtar tower built in 1974 which still has the original interior decoration inside the rooftop restaurant (blue concrete walls, leather imitation  seats with massive statues of children and plastic flowers), in a puzzling disparity with the modern look it has on the outside.

One other place that impressed me was the Upside Down museum. Very very original! I won’t give you more details, just have a look on the photos; some of them will make you ask few questions…ha ha!
