Being in Chile and not visiting a famous winery is like being in France or Italy and … doing the same. We couldn’t miss it! So we did not have too much time to plan our visit ahead, but we just chose one of the few wineries not far from Santiago, open on the Sunday afternoon when we thought about it.

We were lucky as usual managing to find Concha y Toro, apparently the biggest winery in the whole world in terms of production using its own grapes. The tour was quite short, but we had the most diverse group: Turkish, Koreans, Russians, Americans, Argentinians, Brazilians, Germans and of course us. We were shown more than 20 types of different vines (Malbec, Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, etc), the caves and the surroundings. We even entered the legendary Cassilero del Diablo cave. The story says that in the very beginning of Concha y Toro the owner was keeping here the best and oldest wines. One night some people entered the cave and stole many bottles. The owner got furious! No one knows exactly what he did but rumors started to be heard that the Devil itself lived inside. The rumor spread like fire, and many claimed to have seen the devil with their own eyes. So no one has ever tried to steal anything from Cassilero del Diablo again. And it has also became a brand in itself, being nowadays one of the most famous Chilean wines in the world.

Anyway, the best part of the tour was of course the tasting! We had 3 wines: a white one and 2 red. We loved the 2014 Carmenere named Terrunyo. We’ll certainly keep it in mind and have it again!
