Trip to Cotopaxi
September 8, 2016
Have you ever felt high? Have you ever felt like it was summer but with snow? Have you ever really been in the sky and felt the clouds on your skin? It is all possible in Cotopaxi National Park whose central feature is the second highest active volcano on Earth, at nearly 5900 m height.
We visited it with a 4×4 that took us through the park up to 4800 m (the upper park was closed due to volcano activity), but not before having a coca leafs tea to help us better deal with the altitude. The first stop was at the Limpioppungo Lagooon at 3850, the best stop for the panoramic views of Cotopaxi. The second was the refugee at 4800 m where we actually felt the clouds on out cheeks, saw wild horses and felt the lack of air. It was stunning!!!
