The real face of Laos
Renting a scooter from Miss Noy…this is the way to visit the Bolaven Plateau surrounding Laos’s third biggest city, Pakse! Everyone here know Miss Noy and her husband Yves, a Belgian in his 30s who felt in love with a Lao girl (Miss Noy) several years ago and moved to Lao to be a professional motorbike renter! And when I say professional, I really mean it! We asked for a scooter for the following day, he put us on a list and asked us to come back at 6 pm for “the debrief”: he gathers in the office all the tourists that are departing the next day, he gives maps of the area, explains the different routes and what can be seen, answers to any kind of questions one might have and explains safety rules (you can see our session in the first picture).
Wandering around on our pinkish scooter allowed us to see the real Laos with empty roads, simple people living in wooden houses and spectacular nature: we swam with the kids in hidden waterfalls, we smelt the coffee in the coffee plantations and we just relaxed enjoying the silence and the freedom sensation given by riding a scooter. Nice experience!
