2 Weeks of Island Hopping in the Gulf of Thailand
After being on the road for some time we thought it was time to cool down and relax with 2 friends from Romania on the amazing beaches in the Gulf of Thailand. It was not that easy though – I think we got used to being just the two of us (The Bear and The Zeb) and it took quite some days to adapt to a “group” rhythm.
We started in Ko Samui on Chaweng beach, a lovely area with amazing fire shows during the evenings. We rented a car and visited the temples nearby, some waterfalls and other beaches including Lamai. There is one surprising “marvel” on the island: Grandma and Grandpa Rocks, or Hin Ta and Hin Yai, two naturally shaped rocks that resemble male and female reproductive organs. Quite funny!
Next stop was Ko Tao, a smaller island that was once a detention place for political prisoners. It’s the divers’ paradise, especially for beginners as there are numerous beautiful spots with clear, shallow water, lots of colorful fish and corals and almost no current. Sairee beach was our home for few days of relaxation, sunbathing, swimming and Aow Leuk was our favorite snorkeling spot. We’ve had some of our best sunset on this beach as well. Do not miss this island if you are in the area!
Of course we couldn’t leave the area without checking out Ko Phangan, world’s famous full moon party area. Unfortunately, there was no full moon during our stay and there is not much else to do except from just chilling on the beach. So if you get in the area, better stay more days on Ko Tao if no full moon is announced.
All in all, we had a great time with our friends! Thanks guys for visiting us during this trip of a lifetime!
